what a relief from the day before. we arrived late and had a nice meal, did the sound check and relaxed. my cousin maggi came to meet us which was nice to see a familiar face. the concert was great, everyone was playing really well together and there was a nice atmosphere in the room. the sound wasn't perfect but who cares. there were a lot of icelandic people in the audience and some of them came backstage after the show. it almost felt like being back home.
back in the bus we watched "face off" until we came to the czech border. this was probably the most exciting moment of the day. we all had to leave the bus and show our passports. i started making up stories of how stuart (the tour manager) tried to run over the border and the police started shooting at him. and how i wrestled a huge police dog to the ground. well i thought it was funny at the time. anyway there were no major problems and now were in prague.

we went to see sigur rós in the "szene wien", a really small, let's
say "club", in the centre of vienna/austria. they were the only band this
night. there were about 400 people to see them (which is a shame really). i did not
know much about them... have seen a piece of a live show in german tv, and i found
it really nice, so i wanted to see them myself. they started at least 45 min. too
late, but it seemed that no one really cared about that.
then they came onto stage and without saying a word they started. im sorry that i don't know most of the songs, but the first one was - i heard - "nýja lagið"... very quiet and a nice start... the people around didn't move a bit the whole concert, it seemed that there were some people from iceland, and many speaking english... and with every song the crowd seemed to be more caught in sigur rós' world. they played around 1 1/2 hours without the encore.
the next thing i can talk about is the last song before the encore... it was hafssól - and for me it was the best song of the set... really couldn't move anymore, and the finale of that song live is really worth a long way... it was more powerful then the one i've seen at tv (it was köln/germany i think), jonsi and the bass-player really jumped around beating their instruments... was great... then they came back for another song that i didn't know and that were more soft, and the very last one was svefn-g-englar, which was the perfect song to end the set.
during the whole concert sigur rós seemed very happy and funny, making jokes with the other members and violinists... after the last song they came back to say goodbye. yeah, that was it... unfortunately they had no cd's with them, so they said the only chance is the website... but for me that's ok...
what can i say finally... a really great concert, and the only band - beside "public
image limited" - that are doing more than just music....

this was the first time for sigur rós to play in austria. an they played on
good friday - what a day for a sigur rós concert!
the venue, the szene wien, was sold out and lots of people asked me if a have a ticket for them. the concert was scheduled for 8pm but they did not play until almost 9pm so the audience was waiting....but what a beginning! they started of with an introduction which could not fit better - they played a recording of arvo pärt's "für alina"....pärt is one of those few composers who know the meaning of silence in music. and then the finally came on stage together with the 4 girls on the strings. after "nýja lagið" they played this amazing new song...very transcendental indeed and continued with "von". before that the audience was calm but until "ný batterí" they were caught by our icelandic heroes ;-). throughout the whole concert you could hear a metroneome-like "clack-clack" just in the tempo the song was in...especially when it was more quiet this was really annoying. they played a lot of new stuff, which i liked very much, but for those who only new the albums it was a bit strange i think ;-). anyway, they got the obligatory "svefn-g-englar" as an encore. sigur rós finished with the "pop song" which they played quite fast. during the concert i thought they took the soul out of it, but now i like it because it has a catchy groove in it. personally i was a bit dissapointed that they dind't play "viðrar vel til loftárása" but overall it was a great concert!
oh yes, the concert was recorded my a main radio station called "fm4"
and the complete almost two hour concert was broadcastet on easter sunday
