hey guys and gurlz, well, i was at the nyc show last night, and as you can expect it was wonderful. the album leaf were fantastic, although i could have easily listened to them for a few more songs, their set seemed rather short. then sigur ros came on in their usual enigmatic fashion and immediately blew the crowd away. apart from the music, what gets me every time is the way they mezmerise the crowd. i swear no one blinked for the whole show! amazing. i know they only played 2 or 3 tracks from ab, but i loved that. there were so many songs i recognised from the downloads from the site, and i'm guessing that we all heard a good portion of their next album, which is very exciting. anyway, strings or no strings, they did an outstanding job, although i think they themselves may not rate the performance in their top 10, and there was a very annoying moment where a rather loud and zealous security guy started asking some people to leave (was that any of you i wonder?).
the venue was nice, although the seats weren't the most comfortable i'd ever dealt with. with the exception of seeing dave brubeck last year in worcester i can't think of the last time i'd been to a concert where the audience only clapped after each song...it was a nice change, after having seen tool in maine the night before...the sg show had a much nicer blend of respectful music lovers, as opposed to shirtless fratboys and their sorority girlfriends. sigur ros is exactly what nyc needs after the last couple of weeks, and like james, i want to thank them for doing the tour and being there for us. i'm excited for any of you still waiting to see them in their next few shows, you are going to have an amazing night!

to start, it really was not as good as the philly show. it was good of course, as a sigur rós gig cannot really be "bad" in my eyes. but there were just things that didn't make it amount to the same as philly.
visual problems: my seats were 2nd row all the way to the left, the first 2 seats in the row actually. anyway, i was able to see everyone but orri, of course i was very upset over this and i just love to stare and watch orri drumming. i never paid much attention to drummers before or even care about being able to see them at all, but that's all changed now. from the time we got there, to five minutes into sigur rós' set, the 4 seats next to us were not used. of course when the people got there late i felt they did not deserve the seats. selfish or just true, all depends how you look at it. audio problems: we were sitting right in front of the speakers, which was good/bad. we heard everything really loudly which was good, but it was kind of distorted because it was so close so of course that wasn't so great. there were also quite a few tech problems that kept making loud screeching amp noises
those were the only two major problems. the show itself was really nice, and the lights were fantastic. during lagið í gær i kept watching the shadows of orri's drumsticks on the walls, the drumming was so loud it made my heart skip beats. i was able to control my crying more or less, until samskipti was played anyway. also the end of dauða laið was amazing, they had a single spotlight on jónsi as he sang the last few notes, it just sent chills up and down my spine. my friend brought her camera and her & i took photos during the show [of course without flash]. i took more photos than she did since i wanted her to fully experience the show. during samskipti i was able to take my only photo of orri. i thought that if we waited till the show was over we would get some really nice pictures. i was wrong. during the show kjarri was getting really upset with all the technical difficulties, and even went to the side of the stage to talk to the tech guys a few times. so at the end of popp the band got off the stage we stood right up and clapped away...i told my friend to get her camera ready so i could get some pictures of orri...only the lights turned on right away and the band did not come out. i was nearly in tears when i looked around and saw people not standing up and clapping and just getting up and walking away. they didn't come out and do their bows, and it was because of all the problems...i felt so upset that they were upset. jenn's friend laura got a setlist, she didn't really seem to care about sigur rós all that much, but hey...what can you do? after the show i was all upset and i was talking with people outside but i could not get over that they did not bow. i couldn't help but being upset because they were upset. pathetic i know, also i saw little orri for very little time. of course the show was good...but i couldn't and still can't write a decent review of it. too many feelings get thrown in the way, and it really couldn't compare to the show in philly. i can now tell the difference of an amazing show and an outstanding show. i couldn't understand how some people didn't think that the irving show was that fantastic, but it was my first sigur rós show so i couldn't find it less than that.
